The Mercer Island Schools Band Boosters board voted to endorse the MISD Bond (https://www.mercerislandschools.org/programs-and-services/capital-projects/bond). This bond proposal is a practical, thoughtful, targeted bond that addresses building maintenance and learning needs on our campuses, including specific needs for our student musicians:
· At IMS: adding a multi-purpose assembly space / black box theater (our current concerts are either in the gym or cafeteria) as well as classroom space for our student musicians (some of our classes and ensemble groups meet in an instrument storage room).
· At MIHS: addressing the real issues of acoustics and sound systems in the PAC and the gym that interfere with both the student and audience experience of our music.
Bond passage requires a 60% majority AND 40% of the voter turnout from the previous general election, so we need you to vote if able! And we encourage you to vote ‘yes’. Each of our student musicians will be positively impacted by this bond.
For more information, please visit the MISD website which includes all planning documents from the Facilities committees (over years of research) and building plans and tax documents, etc. - https://www.mercerislandschools.org/programs-and-services/capital-projects/bond
Also, the volunteer community group, Committee for Mercer Island Public Schools (CMIPS) is also a wealth of information and a great source to counter mis-information (such as the erroneous statements on the ‘no’ campaign signs) - https://www.yesmischools.org/
Thank you,
The MISBB Board
